Firefox 3.5

Mozilla has just released Firefox 3.6.6, less than a week after the release of the long-awaited Firefox 3.6.4 version. Firefox 3.6.6 fixes a stability issue in the web browser. This update addressed issues with the new plugin handler causing issues with the immensely popular Facebook game Farmville. See bug 574905 for full details.

Firefox 3.6.6 modifies the crash protection feature to increase the amount of time that plugins are allowed to be non-responsive before being terminated.

The developers have increased the time that plugins are allowed to be non-responsive before they are terminated by the browser. The timeout was set to 10 seconds initially and now has been increased to 45 seconds in this new release.

Mozilla has released Firefox 3.0.19 and Firefox 3.5.9 updates. Mozilla Developer News have said that Firefox 3.0.19 is the last and final security update for Firefox 3.0.x branch of Firefox. There will be no more updates available after this one. All users of Firefox 3.0.x are therefore encouraged to upgrade to the latest version, Firefox 3.6, by either downloading it from Firefox official site or by selecting “Check for Updates…” from the Help menu. Users of Firefox 3.5.x are also encouraged to update to Firefox 3.6.2

Mozilla has recently updated Firefox 3.5 to version 3.5.7. Firefox 3.5.7 and Firefox 3.0.17 are designed as security and stability updates for the open source browser. Usually, Mozilla makes a point of offering security and stability refreshes for Firefox 3.5 and Firefox 3.0 in tandem, and the latest updates are no exception to this rule.

At the time of writing, the official announcement is still to be made about the updates, but Firefox updates are now officially available for download and you can also download from the various download channels like Softpedia. You can download the latest version from them too or wait for the official announcement.

After the release of Firefox 3.5, millions of copies were downloaded. But users of Firefox 3.0 are now in a dilemma of whether going for the upgrade or not. Since, they want to be sure before upgrading if their favorite add-ons, settings, websites etc are working properly in the new version. The best way to find out the answer is to try out a portable version first.

The portable version is the exact copy of Firefox 3.5 installed version, so it is great for testing out the features before upgrading. You can download the portable version from the PortableApps website. Though this portable version is only compatible with the Windows operating system, Linux users may try it on the Linux operating system using Wine.
