Taking ownership files or folders in Windows 7 or Vista is not a very simple task and usually requires a bit of attention while doing. Fortunately, there are solutions available that makes this task simple for users. Out of the many ways available to add or remove the Take Ownership shortcut to the right-click context menu and thus simplifying the task of taking ownership of files and folders, in this article we will show you one using a simple registry hack.

How To Add Take Ownership Option?

We have already shown you how to get the “Take Ownership” Explorer context menu using a small application called Rizone Take Ownership Shell Extension.
For those of you, who don’t want to use any application, they can add “Take Ownership” option to the Explorer right-click context menu by just downloading the ZIP file attached at the bottom of this article. Double-click on the “Add-Take-Ownership.reg” file present inside ZIP archive to merge it with the Windows registry. Confirm the action by pressing the Yes button. Finally, you will receive a success confirmation message. Now, just right-click on any file or folder and you will find the Take Ownership option in the context menu.
How To Remove Take Ownership Option?
Rizone Take Ownership Shell Extension that we have talked about earlier also offers the option to remove the Take Ownership context menu option from the Explorer right-click.
You can remove “Take Ownership” from the Explorer context menu by using the Remove-Take-Ownership.reg file present inside the ZIP archive attached below. Double-click on the “Remove-Take-Ownership.reg” file present inside ZIP archive to merge it with the Windows registry. Confirm the action by pressing the Yes button. Finally, you will receive a success confirmation message.
