This no longer seems to work in the final release of Win8. It would be helpful if you could add the date to your posts!

How do you do the opposite? When I first installed, Chrome worked as a modern style app. After a reboot that I did when all apps were crashing if I put them in the background, Chrome refused to open as anything but a desktop app. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled and checked defaults but I still can’t get it to work.

There is a much easier way to do this. In the chrome menu, (three parallel bars, top right) you’ll find “Relaunch Chrome in X mode” where X is either “desktop” or “Windows 8.” Chrome will remember how you want it to launch and do so next time. I prefer the desktop, but this way you can toggle back and forth.

Ok, so it didn’t work. After doing this hack now it won’t launch in desktop mode at all and all my system icons are weird/missing. Any idea ho to revert this? I already un/reinstalled and restarted my station. Thoughts?
