Microsoft Security Essentials 4 antivirus software is available for PCs running Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. Microsoft has silently made available Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) 4.0 download, the latest version of the Redmond software giant’s free anti-virus/anti-malware program for Windows PCs, on April 24.

Symantec has released version 5.0 of its Norton 360 suite. Symantec calls Norton 360 v5, “the industry’s fastest, most effective all-in-one security suite.” Norton 360 includes backup and tune-up features along with security, which makes it a complete-suite.

The user interface of Norton 360 is different from that of Norton Internet Security 2011 but it offers all the same protective technologies offered in NIS 2011. Norton 360 version 5 features: Insight, which uses anonymous software adoption patterns of Symantec users to automatically identify and block new malicious software; SONAR 3, which monitors running applications for suspicious behavior to identify new attacks, crimeware and other threats designed to evade traditional detection; and Norton Power Eraser and Norton Bootable Recovery Tool, which offer detection and repair technology that enables consumers to clean up previously infected computers. AVG Technologies has released AVG Antivirus 2011, the latest version of its free antivirus. The earlier version AVG 9 Free is still quite popular among My technology Guide readers. It provides basic security protection for your computer against malwares, viruses and other malicious programs. The standard security module that AVG Antivirus Free Edition 2011 comprises of are an antivirus, anti-spyware, email scanner, resident shield, LinkScanner, anti rootkit and PC Analyze.

AVG Anti-Virus 2011 (or AVG 10 Free Antivirus) includes enhanced LinkScanner for safer Internet surfing and Email Scanner. Other new features included are Social Networking Protection, Smart Scanning, Autofix Button, Community Protection Network, and Protective Cloud Technology.
