Enable Click-To-Play Feature In Google Chrome, Easily Disable Flash Ads Without AdBlocker

Earlier, we shared how to disable Flash completely in Google Chrome without using any Chrome extensions. Although it disabled flash completely but when you went to some online video website like YouTube, you can’t play videos anymore. That’s the main disadvantage of that method. If you follow this article you don’t have to worry about playback issues anymore. You don’t need to download any third-party Chrome extension or deal with userscripts. We will use Google Chrome’s in-built Click to Play feature for this tutorial. Using this method, you will be able to block flash contents including flash ads, while having the freedom to enable flash with just a click on the flash content.

How to Configure Click To Play Chrome Feature?

  1. Open Google Chrome browser if you haven’t done so yet.
  2. Next, open Settings (see screenshot below). You can also directly open settings by typing chrome://chrome/settings/ in the Omnibar and pressing Enter.

Quick Tip! You can skip steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 by directly opening Content Settings in a Tab. Simply, type chrome://settings/content in the omnibar. Next, follow from steps 5 to enable “Click to play” in Google Chrome.
  1. Scroll down until you find a link that says “Show advanced settings…” click on it.

  1. Scroll down further until you find “Privacy”. Here, click on the button that says “Content Settings…”.

  1. From the overlay window that appears before you, scroll down again to find the section for “Plug-ins”.
  2. Select the “Click to Play” option under “Plug-ins” section.

  1. Everything is configured! Enjoy flash ads free browsing without installing any ad blockers. You can selectively enable flash for websites like YouTube when you need to.

  1. To enable flash for a particular content, simply click on it.
Tip! You can white-list a websites like YouTube by clicking on the blocked Flash icon and selecting “Always allow plugins on…”.
