How To Enable Run Command in Windows 7 or Vista Start Menu

Existing habits are hard to change. Being a Windows user for so many years and used it as the primary and only operating system, we tend to get used to certain features and menu placements. When a new avatar of Windows appears with a significant change in the GUI and change in placement of some default applications or buttons, then we feel alienated and we try to tweak this new interface and get back to our good old Windows look as far as possible.

Unlike the earlier versions of Windows, Microsoft has intentionally removed the Run command from the Start Menu in Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Well, they do have a good reason for doing this. After all, the Windows 7/Vista Start Search bar is a good replacement of Run with all the extra features and functions that it provides.

If you are like me, use the Run command and want it back in the Start Menu, there is a simple way to restore this traditional familiar functionality to the Start Menu. Just follow the few simple steps below to restore the Run command back in the Start Menu.

  • First, right-click on the Start button, and, select Properties.
  • Now, click on the Start Menu tab, and, press the Customize… button.customize start menu
  • Scroll to the bottom of the screen and at the top you should see Run Command.enable run
  • Click on the check box next to Run Command to enable it.
  • Press OK twice.

The Run… is now visible on the right side of the Start Menu.
