Songbird: Open-Source, Multilingual, Cross-Platform Music Player

Songbird is a very good alternative to media players like Windows Media Player, WinAmp, iTunes, etc. It is completely multilingual and cross-platform supported media player with loads of features and is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems. The unique thing about this player is you can add add-ons to enhance the player’s functionality, just like you do in Firefox or Google Chrome. It also supports customized themes known as “Feathers“. Below, I’ll show you how to get Songbird in Windows operating system.

First, get the Songbird installer from getsongbird.net. Visit the page and click on the Download button. Songbird homepage is configures to automatically find which operating system you are using. In this case, you are using Windows, so Songbird will offer you the latest version available for download for the Windows platform. Save the installer file to somewhere you’ll remember, and, when download completes, launch the setup.

Note: When you try to install Songbird in Windows 7, you may get an error message saying it’s unsupported on this version of Windows. This is because officially Songbird is yet to support Windows 7, but you can go ahead and click OK.

Click on Next twice, and then click on Install. When Songbird installation completes, click on the Finish button.

Songbird will now start the Setup Wizard. Follow the setup wizard and select the options and add-ons that you want to install. This should be very much self-explanatory and depends on personal user choices. After the setup wizard completes, you can click on the Tools menu and then select Add-ons to install new extensions and enhance the music player further. :)
