Cortana for Android Now Available via Google Play Store (Public Beta for US only)

Microsoft has finally released Cortana for Android for everyone (only available via Google Play Store in US) as public beta. According to Microsoft, Cortana is the first personal digital-assistant to work across your PC and your phone. Other than its own Windows platform, the Redmond software giant is releasing Cortana for both Android and iOS platform. Today, the first public beta of the Cortana Android app is available to all Android phone users living in the US.

Windows 10 deeply integrates the digital-assistant to offer a better user experience. With the release of the Cortana app for Android devices, the company is making sure that you use Cortana across all the device you carry. Cortana functionality will remain almost same across all the platforms. If you are already comfortable with Cortana on your PC or Windows Phone, you will feel home when using it on Android.

Cortana

Android users already have Google Now but having choices is a good thing. Other than Android, Google has already shipped Google Now to PC users via Google Chrome web browser. Watching Cortana trying to do the same in the opposite direction will be great. While Google Now uses Google to fetch results, Cortana uses Bing. So, if you try to get a result for a certain query, there is a good chance you may receive different answers via the digital-assistants. Similar to Google Now, Cortana also helps you organize your life using reminders, to do lists, alarms, making calls, sending text messages, and so on.

In the beta release announcement post, Microsoft said, “You will also see a few differences between what Cortana can do today in her native environment (Windows) and in the app on Android. For example toggling settings, opening apps or invoking Cortana hands-free by saying Hey Cortana are only available on Windows for now. As with all betas, we are continually improving the experience and will incorporate feedback along the way.”
