Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool

Microsoft .NET Framework is an important part of Windows operating systems. That is why, Microsoft preinstalls .NET Framework in every Windows operating systems. As with all other Microsoft software, the software giant releases updates for .NET Framework. Most of the time, .NET Framework updates complete without an issues. But sometime, those updates do not completes correctly. For addressing issues related to installing Microsoft .NET Framework updates, Microsoft has released the Microsoft .NET Framework repair tool.

The Microsoft .NET Framework repair tool can be used to repair Microsoft .NET Framework 4 installed on all versions of Windows operating system, starting from Windows XP (SP3) to Windows 7 (SP1). It is also compatible with Windows Server family starting from Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) to Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

The Microsoft .NET Framework repair tool detects and tries to fix some frequently occurring issues with the setup of or with updates to the Microsoft .NET Framework. Additionally, this tool tries to resolve these issues by applying known fixes or by repairing the installed product. The tool can also be used to repair corrupted Microsoft .NET Framework 4 installations. This includes Microsoft .NET Framework 4 language packs. The tool is wizard-based and is fairly self-explanatory.

The Microsoft .NET Framework repair tool’s troubleshooting steps are as follows:

  • Scan for issues related to the .NET Framework and try to troubleshoot the issue
  • Try to apply the fix (with user consent)
  • Try to repair the .NET Framework 4
  • Collect logs and send to Microsoft (with user consent)

When you first launch the .NET Framework repair tool you are required to accept the EULA. After accepting the EULA, the repair tool starts scanning the system and displays recommended changes.

Note: While using the .NET Framework repair tool, keep in mind that when you click on the Finish button, collected log data is submitted to Microsoft for further analysis. If you do not want to send data, you should exit the repair tool by clicking on the Cancel button.

An odd way to finish any program if you ask me, since most people will click on the Finish button to exit, that’s normal human behavior. But that’s way how Microsoft has built the .NET Framework repair tool.

You can download the official .NET Framework repair tool from Microsoft Downloads.
