YouTube introduced Redesigned Homepage and Channels view making it look closer to the Google+ look.

If you remember, few days back we provided a sneak peek into the new YouTube look. We also shared a simple cookie hack, using the hack, you can enable the new YouTube look. No more hacks required any more as the look has been officially finalized for YouTube.

When you login to your YouTube account, you’ll be greeted with recent activity from your subscriptions. You can also browse and add new Channels to your homepage. Connect with Google+ and Facebook to share your favorites with friends. Wait, what? Facebook integration? Well, it seems integrating both Google+ and Facebook together, Google wants to invite the large user base of Facebook to also try out their new Google+ social network by using YouTube as a bridge between the two.

Google is testing a new homepage design for YouTube (not the Cosmic Panda test). Even though there is no official announcement, you can get a taste of it using a simple cookie trick. If you don’t like it or want to get back to the old YouTube interface, simply delete the cookie.

YouTube visitors can enable the new test homepage layout by following the steps below:

• First, visit http://www.youtube.com using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
• Now, in Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift and J to open the Developer Tools. Alternatively, you can click on the spanner icon, go to Tools and select Developer Tools.
• Firefox users need to press Ctrl + Shift and K.
• Now, click on the “Console” Tab and type the following text and press Enter to confirm.

• Reload YouTube and Google will greet you to the new layout.

The new YouTube homepage layout is divided into three columns (as explained later) and looks like the screenshot below after a reload.

After logging in, you will notice neat Google+ and Facebook integration along with very well laid out subscribed channel information prominently displayed on the left side. Below it, under From YouTube, you can now easily access Trending or Popular videos. Further below, you will find suggested channels for you to subscribe to. The middle column is filled with updates from subscriptions, or if you click on From YouTube link, it displays the trending/popular videos. In the third (right) column, YouTube displays recommended videos based on your activities on YouTube and videos you have watched in the past.

How to disable YouTube Cosmic Panda?

If for some reason, you want to get back to the old default interface, simply visit http://www.youtube.com/cosmicpanda again. This time you will find a link that says “older version”, click on it and you will be back.

Google has relaunched YouTube’s movie rental service, and gave it the much-needed shot for its revival. Google kicked off the relaunch of the online movie rental service which will allow you to watch movies online with more than 3,000 full-length movies from major Hollywood studios on Monday. Some of the films are free to watch, and others can be rented for a very small fee.

Since, YouTube claims of over 2 billion views per day, it only makes sense that they expand what they have to offer. Recently Google unleashed their live streaming service, and additionally YouTube Next.

YouTube originally launched this movie rental service in early 2010 after negotiations with major studios in 2009 didn’t get very far. The first launch included several independent films that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Later in the year, YouTube quietly added about 500 films to the service, still largely independent fare, but including a handful of well-known movies like Reservoir Dogs, Precious, Pi, and The Cove.

The new relaunch now includes classic content like Caddyshack, Goodfellas, Ghostbusters, and Taxi Driver as well as recent hits like Inception, The King’s Speech, The Social Network, and The Kids Are All Right.

Google has kept the pricing largely same as the iTunes Store and Amazon Video on Demand. Rentals cost between 99¢ and $3.99, and most rentals can be viewed within a 24 hour window. Along with each movie, YouTube is also including reviews, behind-the-scenes clips, cast interviews, and other media with each movie. These are the new links to the services:

YouTube has also updated their search feature. It will still show results from everything on YouTube, but the specific channel you are searching for will show up at the top as preferred.

“Over time we’ll also be adding additional videos and features to YouTube Movie Extras so that you can get even more into movies on YouTube.”

Google Docs now lets you upload any kind of files, though not many of them can be previewed in Google Docs. You can open Microsoft Office, StarOffice, OpenOffice documents, spreadsheets and presentations, PDF files and some images, Windows Metafile (.wmf) and, upload, share and play videos.

After uploading a video to Google Docs, you’ll have to wait until it’s processed. Then just click on the processed video file present in your Documents List, and the video opens in a new page that includes a video player (YouTube video player). You will need to have Flash installed for the video player to work. On the page that opens, you can also find more information about the video file, including the owner, whether the file is shared or not, and when the file was uploaded. It also lets you view the version history of the file. You can also download earlier versions of the video file.

Uploaded video files can be up to 1 GB. These are the most common video formats that you can upload and play:

• WebM files (Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codec)
• .MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files – (h264 and mpeg4 video codecs and AAC audio codec)
• .AVI (many cameras use this format – typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM)
• .MPEGPS (MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio)
• .WMV
• .FLV (Adobe – FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio)

How to Share Private Videos Using Google Docs?

Simply follow the steps below to share private videos using Google Docs:

• Login to Google Docs using your Google Account.
• Click on the “Upload” button to upload the video file.
• You will see two types of upload options: Drag and Drop and Select files to upload.
  Note: If you want to batch upload multiple files, Simply select the multiple files in Explorer and drop them into “Drag and drop” area.
• You can change the Share settings before uploading or you can change the settings later on too. Click on the “Start Upload” button to transfer the selected videos to Google Docs.
• Now, visit https://docs.google.com/#videos to find all your uploaded videos. You can now click on the uploaded video from the Documents List in Google Docs to configure the sharing.
• A new tab will open that will show the uploaded video. Click on the “Share” link at the top left corner and select “Sharing settings” from the menu.
• You can share the uploaded video with your friends by specifying their email address or selecting them from the contacts. You can also set the visibility option of the video file to Public on the web, thus anyone (no Google Account sign-in required) with the link to the uploaded video can watch it or set it to Private (only people with explicitly granted permission can view the video). You can also sent an email notification to tell your friends about the newly shared items through Google Docs. The invited friends can then playback the shared video from Google Docs.

Enjoy sharing videos with only your friends and family privately. Now, I am waiting for Google to add more free storage to Google Docs so that I can share more of my stuffs privately.

How we tested its video recording capabilities?

After downloading TuneBite, we installed it on our test machine. We do liked the option to install TuneBite as a portable software on a USB device.

After installation was completed we started TuneBite. Now even though TuneBite is a very powerful DRM remover and there is no doubt in that, we wanted to first check its ability to record videos off any video sites, especially the above mentioned soccer video sites and see if it lives up to our expectations.

We also tested its performance in converting those videos in our custom selected formats. We also looked at the output of the converted video before coming to any conclusions.

The Test Process

We started TuneBite and then clicked on the Web tab. Under the Web tab you will find “Record Internet Media Content,” that’s the option that will do all the work. We changed the video convert options and made it to “Universal, videos for Windows Media Player” and started surfing the web. We used our favorite browser Google Chrome first to see if it can record the soccer videos off it. We were quite surprised by the test results.

TuneBite not only recorded the videos in the background without interrupting our browsing session but also converted the saved video in the format we selected. We then checked quality of the converted videos and we must add that were pleased. TuneBite worked universally without any limitation of web browsers that other video recorders imposes and didn’t even added any plug-ins or extensions to the browser to record and convert the videos. It just worked silently in the background without disturbing our browsing session.

We then tested its DRM removal capabilities and were very pleased by the results. It converted our DRM’ed music and video files downloaded using Apple iTunes into normal files while keeping the quality intact. We were expecting this as we have previously tested AudialsOne Platinum, TuneBite’s big brother, which is also having the RadioTracker features.

Google’s search engine is the world’s favorite search engine, the reason for its popularity is because it returns relevant results faster and with a no-frills, simple user interface. After the first installation process, it will ask for confirmation of Driver installation.

Then the installer will configure Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable.

At some point of installation, the Security Center pops up a message about installing RapidSolution driver, click on Install here to successfully install AudialsOne.

AudialsOne is having almost all the features that any music lover can ask for. The included features pretty much takes care of all your entertainment needs. Everything is accessible through the main user interface and is just a click away.

When you first launch AudialsOne, you will be in the Radio tab, if you want to record some music of your favourite genre or from your favourite Internet radio station or social radios like last.fm, imeem, pandora or soundclick, just select the desired genre and click on Start Recording. AudialsOne will automatically start ripping songs for you, tag them, download other media information, lyrics, etc and save the songs automatically.

If you click on the Stations button, you can browse through different genres of Internet radio from around the world. Here, you can add manually Internet radio stations which are not present in the list. If you select a lower bit-rate for the streaming stations you will end up with a lot more results.

You can use the Search tab to search for music or videos of a particular artist or song. Under Search when you click on the Artist button, you can browse through a large database of artists.

One of the notable feature of AudialsOne is the WishList. Using Wishlist, you can search the web for music and videos by artists that you have specified. You can compile several wish lists, and switch between them. AudialsOne saves all your wish lists automatically.

The Web functionality provides a convenient way to get music and videos from any websites like Last.FM, YouTube, etc. AudialsOne automatically keeps track of all media played back in your browser, and saves them to your computer.

If you like Podcast, then AudialsOne is a very good podcatcher. If you don’t know what a Podcast is, don’t worry we are here to help you out. A podcast is a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and downloaded through web syndication. A simple definition will be, Podcasts offer regular shows like radio or television series. There are thousands of podcast offering news or entertainment shows as well as podcast dedicated to specific topics. You can add podcast to the list to listen or download or watch podcast episodes.

Using Converter, you can remove annoying DRM from the audio and video files that you own to easily transfer them to other computers and portable devices or you can simply convert your audio and video files to other formats. When converting there are different formats you can convert the files to depending on what you want to play them on. I did a test with some of my DRM audio files and AudialsOne lived up my expectations and perfectly removed the DRM protection while keeping the quality of the file intact. AudialsOne comes with a powerful feature called Organize. You can organize all your multimedia files and categorize them into Artists and Genres. You can let AudialsOne automatically reorganize all your media. Here, you will find a nice feature called Autotag. Autotag searches the Internet for meta data to tag your recorded mp3′s. It also finds album artwork and lyrics from a variety of sources. If you have lesser known music you can also manually edit the tags as well.

It also includes a ring-tone creator, if you want to create ring-tones for your mobile device. You can create ringtones by clicking on the Mobile button.

The in-built burner allows you to burn tracks to a disc.

audials TV is another cool feature for watching music videos of all music genres from the web.

AudialsOne features portable device synchronization. Just click on the Gadget button to configure and synchronise your portable device like your mobile, MP3 player, etc with your music collection.

Ease of Use [9/10]

Even though it is fully feature packed and many things going on simultaneously in AudialsOne but everything is laid out nicely, just a click away and is very easy to use. AudialsOne allows you to find tons of streaming music and video from around the web to download or view or listen. You can easily filter the search to a particular genre or artist. Click on Start Recording to download the media from the web. You can then view the progress or listen to the currently ripped song while AudialsOne is saving them to the hard drive.

Performance [8/10]

Overall AudialsOne performed very well. It successfully ripped and processed audio and video quickly on my AMD system running Windows 7, while I was using the Organize and using the in-built player to listen to the music simultaneously. But as you can understand that running all these processes is surely going to take up resources, but it didn’t bog down my system at all. As I was also using Chrome to surf the Internet and also had other programs running. As you can see in the screenshot below, the first screenshot is taken when I was doing all the stuff said above and the second one when AudialsOne was only ripping songs and videos.

Product Support [9/10]

Want to watch YouTube videos without the browser? DeskTube might be the application you need. DeskTube is an Adobe AIR application. As the name suggests, DeskTube is a free desktop application which YouTube functions to the desktop to give YouTube users instant access to the video site by just double clicking the application on the desktop, without the need to open your browser. It is not just a YouTube “desktop application”, using it, you can connect with your friends over Facebook, tweet to the world with Twitter, record and upload videos to YouTube, or even video chat with three friends.

DeskTube allows users to access all the YouTube functions via its simple and clean user interface. It allows you to search videos, copy the video url, copy the video embed code, add comments, view more information about the video and check related videos. YouTube users can log in to their accounts to upload videos, post comments, and check out personal playlists and subscriptions. Added advantage of DeskTube is the support for social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. This allows users to interact and communicate with their friends via its video chat feature and provides quick access to these sites.

We found DeskTube a bit shaky on some parts. The controls are sometimes random and you might find them not working, also if your YouTube password has special characters than logging in to your YouTube account fails. Though the developers are aware of this bug and are working on an update.

Overall, DeskTube is a great idea and is under very active and ongoing development, so most of these bugs/issues will be fixed in new updates.

Lately, I have looked at ways to download YouTube videos to get local copies of your favorite videos. For those of you new to this whole concept of downloading videos off video sharing sites, here’s a small info for you all. Many of these sites works by simply grabbing YouTube videos in their native Flash format (FLV). To watch these files on your desktop, you’ll either need to get yourself a FLV player or convert the files into another format, so that you can watch the video in your favorite media player (or on your iPod/iPhone, cell phone, etc.). Some of the listed sites offer functions to convert the videos on the fly along with the video download functions.

KeepVid — KeepVid is a simple and free site that comes with a pretty clean interface and is not slathered with ads as some in the free download sites have. Just paste the URL of the video (works with YouTube and several other video sharing sites) and you’ll get an option to download it in either FLV or MP4 formats – the extra MP4 format option helps users who don’t have FLV players installed.

Downloader9 — Downloader9 is a plain and simple free site that lets you paste the video link from YouTube, DailyMotion, Metacafe or MySpace and then generates a download link for the FLV video file. After completing download you’ll have to rename the video.flv file to some-meaningful-filename.FLV so that you recognize the video file later. You can then watch this downloaded video in your favorite FLV player.

Vixy — Vixy offers YouTube downloads in the many formats (AVI (DivX + MP3), MOV, MP4, 3GP and MP3). It’s easy to use and not too much filled up with ads.

VideoDownloadX — Formerly YouTubeX is completely free to use. The downside is it’s so heavily ad-supported you have to tread carefully to avoid accidentally clicking on an ad. You have to manually rename the files with a .FLV extension. Then you will be able to view the downloaded video in your FLV player.

SaveTube — SaveTube is another simple paste and download tool like Downloader9 or KeepVid. SaveTube works fine but like VideoDownloadX is full of ads.
