FavBackup is a freeware portable software for Windows users that lets you save and migrate almost any major web browser settings. It archives all your personal settings and data such as bookmarks, history, cookies, and saved passwords from all major web browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Safari and Flock.

In this digital age, one just can’t afford to lose their personal settings and data. As the number of web browser choices have increased, most of us like to use multiple web browsers for surfing the Internet. Keeping a backup of all the data, spread over all these different browsers is difficult, thanks to FavBackup it is less of a hassle now. FavBackup offers an easy and comprehensive way to back up all the data and even lets you migrate easily to a browser on a different computer.

FavBackup is completely portable application and requires no installation. The program has an intuitive Ribbon user interface, so getting started with it is easy and quick. After downloading the program, extract the FavBackup executable file in your choice of folder, run the executable.

Backing Up a Browser Profile

The “Backup” option allows you to choose which items you want to save for a specific profile, while “Full Backup” saves all settings for all profiles. FavBackup saves all your personal settings and data into a default.dat file.

Choose either “Backup” or “Full Backup” option according to your needs and select the browser that you would like to back up. Browse to the place where you want to keep the backup and click on “Next”. After the backup is completed, click “Finish” to close the program.

Note: In case of “Backup,” all items are selected by default. The Backup process for all the other browsers are identical (pictured above).

Restoring a Backed Up Browser Profile

To import all your personal settings and data which you backed up using the steps above, use either “Restore” or “Full Restore,” and select the backup file “default.dat”.

If you choose the “Restore” option, you can selectively import items from the backup file. “Full Restore” lets you restore the complete data back.

Choose the option that best suits your needs and select the browser that you would like to restore. Select the backup file and click “Next”. The program will restore your browser settings and data. Click on “Finish” to close the program.

Note: In case of “Restore”, all items are selected by default. The Restore process for all the other browsers are identical (pictured above). If you are restoring portable browser data and custom location is not provided, it may overwrite your regular browser settings. If you don’t want this to happen, please provide portable browser’s backup location.

Convert Opera 10 Profile

FavBackup also lets you convert Opera 10 profiles from Windows XP to Windows 7/Vista in both 32-bit and 64-bit format. Simply select the options available under conversion and click on “Next.”

TuneBite is an easy to use application that allows users to easily remove DRM protection from music files, videos, and audio books. The added benefit of TuneBite is it’s ability to record videos off any video sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, MetaCafe, etc and convert it to a format the user likes. And this football season, TuneBite will really come handy for all the soccer fans out there who may want to record the matches, so that they can watch it later.

The Internet offers a lot of soccer videos at special soccer video sites. For instance you can visit any of the following and watch soccer videos. Most of these websites are also offering free World Cup Football South Africa 2010 videos.

Some of the special soccer video sites are: FootyTube.com, Videosoccer.net, Mysoccerplace.net, Oleole.com, Givemefootball.com, Soccerclips.net, video.football.co.uk , Goalsarena.com, Footy-boots.com, Goalvideoz.com, Mightyfootball.com, Footballclips.net, 101greatgoals.com , Football-spot.com, Footballtube.com, Timesoccer.com, Footballwired.com, Goaljunky.com, Thefootballtube.com, Footie-tube.com, Footballvids.org

Tunebite can record all these videos and save them to your PC. You can also convert the videos with Tunebite and transfer them to your cell phone, iPhone, PSP, XBox and every other mobile device.

How we tested its video recording capabilities?

After downloading TuneBite, we installed it on our test machine. We do liked the option to install TuneBite as a portable software on a USB device.

After installation was completed we started TuneBite. Now even though TuneBite is a very powerful DRM remover and there is no doubt in that, we wanted to first check its ability to record videos off any video sites, especially the above mentioned soccer video sites and see if it lives up to our expectations.

We also tested its performance in converting those videos in our custom selected formats. We also looked at the output of the converted video before coming to any conclusions.

The Test Process

We started TuneBite and then clicked on the Web tab. Under the Web tab you will find “Record Internet Media Content,” that’s the option that will do all the work. We changed the video convert options and made it to “Universal, videos for Windows Media Player” and started surfing the web. We used our favorite browser Google Chrome first to see if it can record the soccer videos off it. We were quite surprised by the test results.

TuneBite not only recorded the videos in the background without interrupting our browsing session but also converted the saved video in the format we selected. We then checked quality of the converted videos and we must add that were pleased. TuneBite worked universally without any limitation of web browsers that other video recorders imposes and didn’t even added any plug-ins or extensions to the browser to record and convert the videos. It just worked silently in the background without disturbing our browsing session.

We then tested its DRM removal capabilities and were very pleased by the results. It converted our DRM’ed music and video files downloaded using Apple iTunes into normal files while keeping the quality intact. We were expecting this as we have previously tested AudialsOne Platinum, TuneBite’s big brother, which is also having the RadioTracker features.

How can you use TuneBite to record videos from football video sites?

Start Tunebite or if you are already having AudialsOne, start it.

Change to the “Web” view.

Click on the option “Detect internet media content” or “Record internet media content”.

Under the section “Convert to”, select a profile in which you want your recorded videos to be converted.

Open any football video site in any web browser (IE, Mozilla, Chrome, Safari supported).

Play the video that you like and want to record.

In Tunebite or AudialsOne, an item for each played football video clip will appear.

Export the football video as file by simply dragging it to other applications or Windows Explorer.

The video file can be watched with the desired player on PC, iPhone, iPod, cell phone, XBox, PSP, PS3 etc.

Tunebite will set you up for glory with soccer videos from numerous soccer portals. TuneBite freeware version lets you convert audio files for free and record lots of MP3 music & videos from web without registering.

[ Download Tunebite ]

Note: Videos from any football video sites are copyrighted. Any redistribution of them without the consent of the copyright owners may be a violation of the law in most countries, including the USA.

When ever you work, you often open several applications. Now suppose, you have to go somewhere and you are in a hurry. To shutdown Windows, you have to first close each applications individually, which is very annoying at that moment of time. You want a simple way to close all the programs in just one step and want a simple solution to this problem. Well, Windows provides you with an in-built feature that addresses this problem.

To close several applications and open windows in just one step, keep pressed the [Ctrl] key when you select the buttons of the programs and windows in succession in the Taskbar. You will see that as you select the buttons, they seem pressed. After doing the selection, release the [Ctrl] key and right-click the last selected pushed-button. Select “Close group” from the context menu. Windows will now close all the selected applications and windows at once.

Another way of obtaining the same result is by using a small portable application “Close All Windows“. Close All Windows is a very simple utility that doesn’t require installation. This little tool lets you to close all running applications with just one click. It doesn’t use system resources because it only flashes a ‘close’ signal to all open windows on the desktop and then ceases.

After downloading, extract the Zip archive. Create a shortcut to the application in the Start Menu, Quick Launch, Windows 7 Taskbar or elsewhere. You can also add a hotkey to this shortcut. It works just as if you were pressing the close button for each application. When you run Close All Windows, it will automatically close all windows and applications for you.

You can also prevent some applications from being closed automatically by adding a simple exclusion list to the CloseAll.exe command line. Just add
-x="app-to-exclude.exe"
. For example, in the Run as dialog box, type
C:CloseAll.exe -x="explorer.exe"
. Here we assume that CloseAll.exe is in the C: drive.

You can separate multiple values with “|” (vertical pipe), such as:

-x="explorer.exe|firefox.exe|msnmsgr.exe"
. Remember to test these settings before using it.

WinTinker Password Generator is a light portable application with a download size of only
124 KBs
, but don’t be fooled by its small size! Under the hood, it is a very powerful password generator. In the past, we have seen how accounts got hacked because of using simple dictionary words as passwords. It becomes extremely important to make sure that the passwords that you are using for WEB 2.0, be it, social networking sites, online banking accounts or anywhere online are very strong, secure and hard to break.

While searching online for password generators you will get tons of apps. But the only problem with them is that the passwords that they generate are filled with random alphabets, numbers and symbols which is very hard to remember. For this reason, you may note down the generated password which renders the process of having secure passwords.

WinTinker Password Generator is different from them. With the above feature, it has the ability to make your simple easy-to-remember and easily crackable password into a hard-to-break but easy-to-remember password. I guess you didn’t get that right? Ok, let me elaborate…

Let us suppose you use the World’s most easy to remember and also the most easy to crack word “password” as your password. Now, when you use WinTinker Password Generator’s “Easy Password Generator” feature, it will make “password” as “P@$W0Rd“. Which you can now use anywhere without the fear of being hacked while memorizing it easily.

Here are some key features of “WinTinker Password Generator“:

Most of the time, in the event of a virus attack, the virus changes computer security settings to hide itself and do harm. Even though, you may have cleaned the virus by using the various security tools, these changed security settings remains intact in the computer which further causes trouble. You may start getting various “You don’t have permission to…” errors, which is very frustrating. Previously, we have written about tools like Re-Enable, XP Quick Fix Plus and 7 Quick Fix which to some extends help restoring default settings in Windows. We found a new utility which is built specially to restore the default security settings of Windows.

Rizone Security Restore is a small portable utility that will attempt to restore your computer to the default security settings. This application is very useful for situations as described above, like when you start getting, “You don’t have permission to… blah, blah, blah” errors, while trying to install programs or updating Windows and other programs. It will also attempt to repair the dreaded
0×80070005
error messages when trying to register
dll
files while installing certain Windows components or programs.

Sometimes you will not get this specific error number, but just an “Installation Failed” message. This tool will usually also repair these errors, such as: when you get installation failure error when trying to install Internet Explorer 7 or get permission errors while installing BitDefender AntiVirus.

Note: This application should only be used when you actually have something wrong with your computer. This will normally be after a virus attack and you are trying to register components, such as: when you try to update a Windows installation. Also, when you try to install an AntiVirus program after virus removal and you keep on receiving permission errors.

This utility replaces the popular Rizone 0×80070005 FIX application.

Supported Platforms: Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 7

Removal utility allows uninstalling the following products:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.07.020092010

Kaspersky Internet Security 6.07.020092010

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers (6.0.2.687-6.0.3.837)

Note: Under 64-bit OS the removal utility can uninstall Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009/2010 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2009/2010 only.

In order to fully uninstall the product:

Download the archive kavremover10.zip

Unpack the file kavremover10.exe from the archive

Run the file kavremover10.exe

Enter the CAPTCHA code from the picture to confirm removal

Click the Remove button

Wait until a confirmation dialog box informs you of successful product removal

Click OK

Now, Reboot your computer

If by some reasons the remove utility has not found the installed product in the OS and you are sure the product is installed and/or some modules still remain, then to skip product check, run the utility from the command prompt with the following syntax:

kavremover10.exe
[
kav6
|
kav7
|
kav2009
|
kav2009x64
|
kav2010
|
kav2010x64
|
kis6
|
kis7
|
kis2009
|
kis2009x64
|
kis2010
|
kis2010x64
|
kav6fs
|
kav6wks
]. For example if Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 was installed on your PC in this case the command will look the following way
kavremover10.exe kis2010
.

Lunascape is a web browser with a kind of uniqueness that you cannot find in others. It is very unique in that it has three rendering engines: Gecko (used in Mozilla Firefox), Webkit (used in Apple Safari and Google Chrome), and Trident (used in Microsoft Internet Explorer). The user can switch between layout engines seamlessly and even without restarting the browser. This makes the browser all-in-one solution for perfect web experience.

The support for compatible add-ons makes it more unique. For instance, you can use all your favourite Firefox add-ons when you are using the Gecko engine. You will get the same experience that you get when you use your favourite browser.

The latest version of Lunascape is version 6.0.1 and is better known as Lunascape Orion. It includes the latest Gecko engine (same as Firefox 3.5.6), option to select IE8 native mode, supports higher resolution, and has some bugs and language fixes. You can have the best features, performance, and speed of, Windows Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple Safari all in one browser.

While installing Lunascape you can either go for Standard install or Advanced install. The Advanced install option is further sub-divided into Custom install or Portable install. The portable install option is great and gives you the freedom to carry an all-in-one browser with the best features that you can get from the three web-rendering engines. Don’t forget to select the Gecko Engine and Webkit plugin during installation.

Features:

Triple engine means triple add-on facility: Trident rendering engine, Gecko rendering engine, WebKit rendering engine.

Mouse gestures, Form data saving, User-agent camouflaging, Pop-Up blocker, Crash prevention feature.

Compatible with Firefox add-ons. The list of currently incompatible Firefox add-ons can be found here.

Even though this is good but it sometimes gets on your nerve when you see errors like “Permission Denied” while accessing system file/folder. If you want to get access to them Microsoft wants you first “<a title="Add "Take Ownership" To The Explorer Right-Click Context Menu [Windows]" href="http://www.mytechguide.org/2010/09/28/take-ownership-explorer-context-menu-windows/">take ownership of the files/folders“. The manual way is very tiresome and those who have to go through this knows very well.

Thanks to the Rizone Take Ownership Shell Extension developed by Rizone Technologies, you can easily take ownership of any file/folder that you want to by just a single click.

How to use?

Just download the small installer from their website or Softpedia and launch it.

You will find an Install button, click on it to install on your machine.

After installation, you will find a new entry “Take Ownership” in the Windows Explorer right-click context menu.

If you want to uninstall the shell extension, launch the installer again and you will find the Uninstall button. Click on it to remove.

When compared with Microsoft’s approach to taking ownership, this little genius can be very useful and handy. It is completely safe to use.

System Restore helps you restore your computer’s system files to an earlier time. This features can sometime successfully rescues your system from a worst condition like Windows cannot boot due to an error or BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). So, it’s a good idea to have healthy system restore points. If you want to create a system restore point manually, you have to follow the following way:

Open Control Panel > Open the System Protection box > Open the System Restore utility to create a restore point. You can also do the same by first pressing [ Windows Key ] + [ R ] to open Run dialog. Type in
rstrui.exe
to open System Restore Utility.

Quick Restore Maker does the same job in just a single click. Simply download the .zip file and extract it to the Program Files folder. Place a shortcut on your Desktop. Now run the utility to create System Restore points manually. The restore points generated by the utility is named as ‘QuickRestoreMaker Generated‘ point.

Programs that are starting up with Windows System startup affects PC boot time. So it becomes very important to have less number of programs in the Windows startup program list. A regularly optimized startup program list can easily cut PC boot up time, reduce memory and resource load.

You can change the list of applications to start and leave the ones that need more memory at the end of the list so that OS components would load first by applying delay time between loading applications, or you can just use a startup manager and remove or disable unwanted startup entries.

The WhatInStartup, a free application developed by NirSoft, was designed to be a small, easy-to-use, portable startup manager that would help the user easily manage (view, disable, enable or remove) startup entries. WhatInStartup is a free utility that requires any Windows version from Windows 2000 up to Windows 7 operating systems to work. It does not install or add any registry entries to Windows, all you have to do is extract the files and run the application. You can also run it off portable drives. All the changes that are made will be stored in a configuration file within the root directory.

What I like the most about WhatInStartup is a special “Permanent Disabling” feature. If a program that you previously disabled added itself again to the startup list of Windows, WhatInStartup automatically detects the change and disables it again.

You can download WhatInStartup from the link below.

Also, there is an internal hardware check done by Windows before enabling Aero. This is done to check if the hardware will be able to run Aero smoothly or not. But this doesn’t mean that you cannot enable Aero in Windows 7/Vista Home Basic. You can now easily enable Aero using AeroEnabler in Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows 7 Home Basic.

Using AeroEnabler activating Aero in Windows 7/Vista Home Basic edition is as simple as clicking a button. You will need a minimum DirectX 9 acceleration, WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) compatible driver, 128 MB of graphic memory, and Pixel Shader 2.0 with 32-bits per pixel support for Aero to work properly.

Windows 7 users may have already heard about the Windows XP Mode in Windows 7. For late comers, it basically allows Windows 7 users (supported versions are Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 7 Ultimate) to run Windows XP in a virtual environment. Windows XP Mode is freely available for Windows 7 users.

Running an application using Windows XP Mode under Windows Virtual PC can be beneficial if the application is not compatible with Windows 7. Those users who wants to run Windows XP Mode can download the required software to launch applications in the virtual environment with just one click in Windows 7.

But other than the software requirements, the important requirement is that your PC’s hardware should be capable of running this virtual environment. To be more specific, your PC’s hardware should support Hardware-Assisted Virtualization (HAV) and the option needs to be first enabled in the computer’s BIOS.

To easily check this, Microsoft has released the Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool to give the user exact information if Hardware-Assisted Virtualization is supported by the computer and if it is enabled in the BIOS or not.

This utility is compatible with all versions of Windows 7, Windows Vista SP1 or SP2 and Windows XP SP3. The Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool is a portable software program. When you run this tool, it displays all the relevant information upon startup.

Disk2vhd is the latest tool developed for inclusion in the Microsoft Sysinternals Suite. Disk2vhd is a lightweight portable utility that creates VHD (Virtual Hard Disk – Microsoft’s Virtual Machine disk format) versions of physical disks. These images can then be used in Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines (VMs).

The process to create vhd versions of physical disks is very simple. When you start Disk2vhd, it will display the available physical disks. To create a vhd image of the disk, you need to select the path (where you want to save the vhd image) and give a name for the image and select the physical drive(s) that the virtual image are to be created of. You can also keep the default selections and create the image, if you don’t want to change anything. Disk2vhd will then create the vhd image which you can use later in Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Hyper-V.

It will create one VHD for each disk on which selected volumes reside. It preserves the partitioning information of the disk, but only copies the data contents for volumes on the disk that are selected. This enables you to capture just system volumes and exclude data volumes, for example.

Disk2vhd runs Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows Vista, Windows 7, including x64 systems. You can download Disk2vhd at the Sysinternals’s website. You can even run it directly from http://live.sysinternals.com.

[ Download Disk2vhd ] [ Run Disk2vhd now from Live.Sysinternals.com ]

After the release of Firefox 3.5, millions of copies were downloaded. But users of Firefox 3.0 are now in a dilemma of whether going for the upgrade or not. Since, they want to be sure before upgrading if their favorite add-ons, settings, websites etc are working properly in the new version. The best way to find out the answer is to try out a portable version first.

The portable version is the exact copy of Firefox 3.5 installed version, so it is great for testing out the features before upgrading. You can download the portable version from the PortableApps website. Though this portable version is only compatible with the Windows operating system, Linux users may try it on the Linux operating system using Wine.

The portable version can simply be extracted to a folder on the local computer system or to your USB drive from where it can be started after wards. All the features in the portable version of Firefox works same like in the installed version including the installation of add-ons. If you want to check your old Firefox 3.0 settings in the portable version then you can simply export and import the add-ons and settings using Firefox Environment Backup Extension (FEBE).
