Today, My Technology Guide faced a small issue which caused almost all the pages to either load blank page or appeared broken. We apology for the inconvenience faced by our readers due to this.

The main reason this happened, as we found out after investigating is as follows. I forgot to change the settings of our cache plugin (W3 Total Cache) and upgraded PHP on our server. This broke the APC cache module which was serving the minified code to our visitors. We also installed Google’s new mod_pagespeed on our server to serve our pages faster to our readers. But we found out that minify and other advanced cache settings were breaking down and the number of errors increased.

So, we have re-configured everything and have disabled the settings that were causing trouble. We have tested the settings and they seem to be working now. We are still working and if there are still anything broken, the errors will disappear by tomorrow.

Regular readers of our website might have already noticed a new feature that I have just added to enhance user interaction on our website. The comment form now lists a Twitter Username field next to the standard username, website and email fields that existed before.

My Technology Guide commenters who will from now on add their Twitter username to that field in the comment form, their Twitter username will then be added to their comment. Most probably, I will change how the Twitter username is laid out in the future but now, it all works perfectly. This is an excellent opportunity to attract more followers.

The Twitter @Anywhere integration on My Technology Guide looks something like in the screenshot below:

So, when someone hovers their mouse on the Twitter username, it displays all the details about the Twitter user and also displays a Follow button. This will surely help increase your Twitter followers, and this will increase more rapidly if your comment is very useful.

I have also repositioned the subscribe to comments check box. The box is now also accessible via keyboard tab just like any other comment form field on the page.

This is a quick update about an unscheduled back-end maintenance of My Technology Guide. From the last couple of days, we are facing an issue with our back-end which is not allowing us to post new articles properly.

As said earlier, this is a back-end issue, so the site is not down but we have disabled most of the additional features of this site for the maintenance. You may find difficulty in navigating the site or the site may not display correctly or the pages may load slowly.

We are extremely sorry for the trouble and inconvenience this may cause to you.

As soon as the maintenance is over, My Technology Guide should return to its glory!

Update 1: My Technology Guide is now back to normal. Since, we had to clean up our database and had to reset every settings, we lost the comment subscription database table. If you subscribed to any My Technology Guide article’s comment updates, you have to subscribe again to continue receiving updates. Feedburner Email subscriptions are not affected by this.

Update 2: If you notice any site specific problem or bug or face problem in commenting, please help us remove those errors by telling us about it. Please include the page address with as much information as you can about the error while sending us the bug report.

Apologies for the major downtime that lasted around 4 hours. The main reason for the downtime reported was file system error in the web server. In order to rectify the problem, the server was restarted and checked for errors. According to the latest update, the web server is now working fine…

My Technology Guide had a rough day today with around 3 hour, 15 min of downtime in total. The main cause of this was the server on which it was hosted. So we took the issue with Dreamhost Support (our host) to see into the matter. They promptly replied with an apology for the situation explaining about why this was happening. In order to save us from further downtime, they moved us to a new server entirely.

The move to the new server was almost transparent and caused little to no trouble at all. I don’t had to do any work on the server or configure anything entirely due to this move. The support staff were very friendly and they kept a close eye to the server move. They configured everything and we regained back stability.

We are very happy with Dreamhost’s prompt solution and their best support which helped us to come back to normal track in no time! Kudos Dreamhost!

Hi My Technology Guide readers,

My semester exams are starting from 15th December and will end on 26th December. I have a lot of revisions to do too. Due to this, I will not be able to give quality time in writing new articles here for you until 26th December, 2009.

Even though I wrote a few articles in advanced and scheduled them to post, unfortunately in a hurry I accidentally deleted the images folder making a lot of images gone missing in them. So, I had to revert them from publishing. Anyway, I will try to write new posts in between if I get some free time.

During this time do email me with new tips, compliment or even critiques. They definitely lifts my spirit and inspires me to write more good articles. Also you can join and talk with other members in the official Facebook fan page.

Most of our regular readers must have noticed the irregularities in the posting of new articles from the back few days. Well, the reason for this irregularity is the tough time that we are going through. This update about the present situation will clear about what problems we are facing at this moment.

First nuisance is our broadband connection. This is the third time that our broadband connection got disconnected due to some cables being damaged by the construction work going on in our area. All our telephone lines in our area is dead. Secondly, our backup connection went bad all at the same time and we had no choice but to wait. To make matters worse, one of our family member is ill and is going medication.

Though, still our main broadband connection is still not restored, we are posting this update about the present situation using our third option, that is GPRS connection which is tad slow and very expensive.

We can only hope that everything comes back to normal as soon as possible.

My Technology Guide will start its operations from 1st July 2009! As you can see, we are up and operating at full swing!
