AVAST Software has released Avast Antivirus’s most awaited latest version, version 6.0. Avast Antivirus 6 comes with many new features and improvements. We talked about some of these when we wrote about the beta release.

Symantec has released version 5.0 of its Norton 360 suite. Symantec calls Norton 360 v5, “the industry’s fastest, most effective all-in-one security suite.” Norton 360 includes backup and tune-up features along with security, which makes it a complete-suite.

The user interface of Norton 360 is different from that of Norton Internet Security 2011 but it offers all the same protective technologies offered in NIS 2011. Avast will soon release a new avatar of their flagship antivirus and Internet Security suite: Avast Antivirus 6, Avast Antivirus Pro 6 and Avast Internet Security 6. They have released a beta version of the soon to be released stable version.

How to install and test the new Avast AV, AV Pro or IS 6 beta?

Simply download the setup executable (download links available at the forum) and install it.

Note: This version needs to be installed from scratch, i.e. updating from an earlier version of avast won’t work. So, the only option is to really uninstall the version you’re using (if any), reboot, and then install this beta. Also, if you have already used an earlier beta of the standalone WebRep, it’s better to uninstall it before installing avast 6.

So, you have to download the Chinese installer from the link here. After installing the Chinese version, if you want to switch to English interface, you have to first turn off or disable Kaspersky Self-Defense.

To disable Kaspersky Self-Defence, right-click on the Kaspersky tray icon at notification area and select the seventh option to open KIS 2011 Settings window.

Out of the four icon buttons present in the top-left corner of settings, click on the last icon (that looks like a box/package). Now, from the left-sidebar, select the second menu item. Then, in the right-sidebar, deselect the first check-box to disable the Self-Defense in Kaspersky Internet Security 2011.

Open registry editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KasperskyLab\protected\AVP11\environment\ and change the SkinSwitchDisabled value from 1 to 0. Now, open Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 program, press [ Shift ] + [ F12 ] to instantly switch the language from Chinese to English.

Update: We have found that if we are using the above method, KIS 2011 user interface reverts back to Chinese language after restart, so to permanently change the language to English, use the following method:

Open registry editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KasperskyLab\protected\AVP11\environment\ and change the Localization value to en.

For protecting our computers from security and malware threats we sometimes experiment with different security suites to see which one is better than the other. In this process, we install and uninstall these security suites as it is always advisable to use only one antivirus or a full featured security suite at a time in our system. More than one antivirus or a full featured security suite that includes everything from a firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, and more can cause lots of performance and stability issues.

Although we can easily uninstall the existing security program using Windows built-in “Add/Remove Programs” (or Programs and Features in Windows Vista and 7) applet but it’s not a perfect solution. Sometimes the uninstaller of the program doesn’t remove all the components and registry keys installed by the security program completely, this can hamper with the newly installed security program and may even cause system instability and BSOD’s.

What should we do then? How can we uninstall the existing antivirus or security suite completely? Well, almost all the security suite vendors provides a special uninstaller tool which can remove the security suite completely from your system. We are here providing a list (not in any particular order) of these special uninstaller of all popular security suite or antivirus programs to save you time and energy in finding them yourself.

For most of these uninstaller, you just need to run the executable file and follow the onscreen instructions. Then after completion, restart your system to have a clean system again.
