Every year in April, the Earth Day is celebrated worldwide to increase awareness of our planet’s natural environment. Microsoft has also joined the celebration by releasing some fresh and beautiful Windows themes.

The official Windows Experience Blog has posted the themes along with a brief introduction about the Arbor Day (or Earth Day, as we all know today). Jennifer Shepherd on Windows Experience Blog posted that “the first Arbor Day was held in Nebraska 140 years ago; by some accounts nearly a million trees were planted that day.”

Flashback Trojan Removal Tool Officially Released By Apple

Apple has officially released Flashback Trojan Removal Tool that targets OS X Lion 10.7 users.

The Cupertino software giant has recommended all Mac users, who do not have Java installed on their OS X Lion, to run the standalone removal tool. Functionality of the tool is identical to that which is performed by the most recent Java update.

A technical note about the utility on Apple’s Support site states that “If the Flashback malware is found, a dialog will be presented notifying the user that malware was removed.” Further, it states that “In some cases, the Flashback malware removal tool may need to restart your computer in order to completely remove the Flashback malware.” [Read more...]

VLC Media Player 2.0.1 Security Update Released

VLC Media Player is one of the most popular media player among our readers. On February 18, 2012, VLC developers released VLC Media Player 2.0 “Twoflower”. After 15 million downloads of VLC 2.0, the VideoLAN and VLC development team has released the second version of “Twoflower”, version 2.0.1.

According to the official announcement, VLC 2.0.1 is a bug fix and security update release with some additional features. Security issues SA-1201 and SA-1202 are fixed in this release. The first resolves a stack overflow in VLC’s MMS support and the second fixes an issue VLC’s Real RTSP support.
