Windows 8 Logo Unveiled by Microsoft: “It’s a Window… Not a Flag”

Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 operating system with its “Metro UI” is definitely changing the way users used to interact with an operating system. The Metro UI seems more fitting for mobile, tablets and touch-based devices instead for desktop PCs and is clearly a sign that Microsoft is moving on. The Redmond giant is very near to unveil Windows 8 Beta at a “consumer preview” event in Barcelona, Spain on February 29.

On Friday, February 17, Sam Moreau, Windows’ principal director of user experiences, announced the dramatically redesigned Windows 8 logo on Windows’ official blog. The new logo now looks more like a window instead of a flag.

Mozilla Planning Windows 8 Metro UI Version of Firefox

Microsoft Windows 8 will be the next version of Windows operating system. For the first time with Windows 8, Microsoft wants to offer desktop, laptop, netbook, tablet, server, and media center PC users the same unified experience. It’s not a secret anymore that Microsoft Windows 8 will come with two different interface. One is the classic desktop user interface which regular Windows users are using now and the new Metro user interface optimized for tablets and touch-based devices. Mozilla now seems don’t want to left out of all the Metro fun.

Mozilla has revealed this week about their plans to create a Metro style version of Firefox specially for Windows 8. The browser will be based on the open source Gecko engine. It will take full advantage of screen touch enhancements, alongside support for the Awesomebar, tabs, and common navigation controls. Mozilla has published two new Wiki pages detailing their plans. Windows Defender Offline For Disinfecting PCs That Can’t Go Online [Beta]

Microsoft has released Windows Defender Offline, an offline antivirus tool, for PCs that are badly infected by malicious and other potentially unwanted software, including rootkits, to even get full access to the Internet.

The offline antivirus tool basically allows a user to boot their infected Windows computer system from a CD, DVD or USB flash drive. It uses the most recent definition update available to scan the PC for malicious and other potentially unwanted software. It then helps the user to disinfect the PC from the hard to detect threats.

This tool is particularly useful to remove certain kinds of malware that prevents the user from visiting any security or antivirus website. Many malicious programs uses methods to prevent users from accessing those websites to prevent detection and cleaning. Sometimes, they corrupt Windows files to prevent any kind of network access. Windows Developer Preview Product Key For Reinstall/Reset Windows 8

Microsoft released Windows Developer Preview few days back for download to the public.

If you are testing out Windows Developer Preview and have installed it without any problem. You should keep these product keys handy if you Reset Windows 8 or reinstall Windows Developer Preview.

In response to a question posted on MSDN forum, “I’m reinstalling Windows Developer Preview and need to enter a product key. Windows 8 User Interface Revealed by Microsoft

Microsoft has for the first time revealed the user interface of Windows 8.

At the D9 Conference, Microsoft demonstrated the next generation of Windows, internally code-named “Windows 8,” for the first time. Microsoft revealed a number of details of the operating system’s new interface through a press release and to All Things Digital.

Windows 8 supports two types of applications; Classic desktop Windows apps and HTML5 web apps. The demonstration video (embedded below) shows the new user interface seamlessly interacting with legacy applications. Microsoft’s new start screen includes easy touch icons to allow users of touch based devices to easily navigate through the operating system. Ballmer Promises Windows 8 to be Released in 2012

Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, has promised that Windows 8 will release in 2012.

Steve Ballmer, while speaking at Microsoft’s Developer Forum in Japan on Monday, promised Windows 8 to be released not only to computers but across PCs, tablets and slates next year. “As we progress through the year, you ought to expect to hear a lot about Windows 8,” said Ballmer. “Windows 8 slates, tablets, PCs, a variety of different form factors.”

Ballmer’s statement about Windows 8 is a stark contrast to that of his colleagues. Microsoft execs have avoided any references to the timing or naming of the next version of Windows. They avoided calling the next version of Windows, “Windows 8″ publicly, preferring instead to call it “Windows Next.” Steven Sinofsky and the Windows team typically refers to Windows 8 as the “next-generation” of Windows, avoiding the 8 branding. Windows 8 Milestone 3 Server Build 7959 Leaked

It seems like I have missed to cover a lot of important news for my readers due to some problems that I faced for the last few weeks. I missed to cover the leak of Windows 8 Milestone 2 build 7955 last week, but now I am back with the hot news about the latest leak of Windows 8 Milestone 3 Server Build 7959. Earlier, I have shared the news about the leak of Windows 8 Milestone 1.

Much like the previous leaks, this leak is now available on a private FTP server but it is expected to be available soon publicly via torrents. This build, 7959, represents the first M3 build to be leaked. But be warned that this build is said to be very buggy and it is also reported at Betaarchive that this build is not working in VMWare but as you can see in the screenshot below, it seems to be working in VirtualBox.
