VLC Android App Beta Available For Download In The Google Play store

The long wait for the official VLC Android app is finally over. The official VLC Player for Android has finally seen the light (albeit in beta stage now) and is now available as free download from the Google Play Store.

VideoLAN, the developers of the VLC Media Player and the VLC Android app notes that VLC Beta is intended for power users and hackers. The beta version is not stable and is slower than the upcoming final version. The beta version is available only for Android devices running on ARMv7 processor that supports the NEON engine. The ARM NEON general-purpose SIMD engine efficiently processes current and future multimedia formats, enhancing the user experience. VideoLAN will release separate applications for Android phones or tablets running on other processors soon. Chrome For Android: Finally Out Of Beta, Available In 38 Languages

Google just announced the first stable version of Chrome for Android browser. With this announcement, Chrome for Android is now officially out of beta. Like before, Google’s Chrome mobile browser is only available on devices running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, or later.

Chrome for Android’s stable version number is 18.0.1025123, marking the first version to be released to the Stable Channel. Google with the announcement of their first Nexus 7 tablet said that Chrome for Android will be the tablet’s default browser. Samsung Galaxy S II Finally Receives Android Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade

Samsung has finally released Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) upgrade to the Galaxy S II’s around the world. According to an announcement on the official Samsung Tomorrow blog, the Korean consumer electronics giant will push upgrade first in the European countries including Poland, Hungary, Sweden, as well as in Korea today. Samsung will gradually roll out the upgrade to other markets.

The upgrade is meant for international specification, Galaxy S II (GT-I9100), so if you have any other variant of Galaxy S II, like the AT&T/T-Mobile Galaxy S II or a Sprint Epic 4G Touch, you won’t be able to upgrade to ICS just yet. [Read more...]

Dropbox Android App Updated, Dropbox Website Redesigned: It’s Minimal Yet Useful

Dropbox has updated their Android app with new automated photo upload feature, iOS users will soon receive the update.

Dropbox Android App is now available in the Android Market. It enables users to automatically upload their photos to the cloud while also giving them 500MB free extra cloud space, up to 3GB in total.

Automated photo uploads are coming to the desktop as well. But the desktop apps are not yet ready for prime time. When they are ready, you’ll be able to directly upload photos to the cloud from the camera connected to your computer.

Ubuntu for Android: Complete Ubuntu Desktop for Docked Android Smartphones

Canonical is now working on a new product called Ubuntu for Android. The aim of the product is to bring Ubuntu, “the popular Linux distribution,” to high-end Android smartphones.

Ubuntu for Android will offer a complete Ubuntu desktop experience on the smartphone along the standard Android environment. Users will first need to plug-in their Android device to a dock that will connect to a keyboard and monitor. Once docked, the Android phone’s data, apps and connectivity can be easily accessed within the Ubuntu desktop PC.

Ubuntu for Android variant will make use of the underlying Android (Linux) kernel. It is further designed to take advantage of the dual-core ARM CPU.
