Adobe Flash Player Security Updates Available, Update Now

Adobe has released security updates for Adobe Flash Player for all platforms. Adobe Flash Player 11.5.502.149 security update is released for Windows and Macintosh, Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.262 for Linux, Adobe Flash Player 11.1.115.37 for Android 4.x, and Adobe Flash Player 11.1.111.32 for Android 3.x and 2.x are released. Security update for Windows and Macintosh addressed issues which are rated critical by Adobe. For all supported platforms, these updates addresses vulnerabilities referred as CVE-2013-0633, CVE-2013-0634 (details later). These vulnerabilities could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected computer system and may cause a crash.

Out of the two vulnerabilities discovered in Adobe Flash Player, Adobe reports that CVE-2013-0633 is being exploited in the wild. It is a targeted attack designed to trick a user to open a Microsoft Word document. The document is sent via email and has malicious Flash (SWF) content. It targets the ActiveX version of Flash Player on Windows. Similarly, Adobe reports that CVE-2013-0634 is also being exploited in the wild. The attacks targeting this vulnerability is delivered via malicious Flash (SWF) content hosted on websites that target Flash Player in Firefox or Safari on the Macintosh platform. Download Nokia HERE Maps App For iOS and Android

Nokia has rebranded its existing mapping service as the new HERE Maps. Nokia HERE Maps, an alternative to Apple Maps, is now available as free download from the iOS App Store for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new iOS app uses mapping data from Nokia-owned NAVTEQ, and supports Here.net personalized POI (points-of-interest) Collections. Nokia HERE Maps covers over 200 countries and is an HTML5 app and not a native iOS software.

The new Nokia HERE Maps app includes turn-by-turn walking directions, which is still not offered by Apple Maps. Additionally, the iOS app also features live traffic, community maps (for selected areas), social sharing, public transportation and offline support. Mozilla Releases Latest Firefox 16.0.1 Fixing Security Vulnerability

Mozilla has released latest Firefox 16.0.1 after fixing the vulnerability it found in Firefox 16. The latest Firefox build, 16.0.1, is available for all supported desktop and mobile platforms.

Mozilla discovered a security vulnerability in Firefox 16 and temporarily removed it from current installer page a day of releasing it. It also advised Firefox 16 users to downgrade to the 15.0.1 until a patch is released. According to the Mozilla Security Blog, the security flaw responsible “could allow a malicious site to potentially determine which websites users have visited and have access to the URL or URL parameters”. Now that Firefox is patched, users will be automatically updated to the patched 16.0.1 release.

ESET USSD Control: Protects From Dangerous Android USSD Vulnerability

Almost all Android-based smartphones are affected by a dangerous Android USSD vulnerability. The USSD vulnerability allows any malicious users to wipe completely your Android phone remotely, either by directing you to a URL, or through a text message or scan a QR code or NFC tag linking to the malicious website.

The USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) codes (a code starting with asterisk *, continuing with hashtags # or digits, which represent commands or data, and ending with a hashtag) are normally used by handsets to communicate with carriers. A common USSD code used by all handsets is *#06# which displays the IMEI number of your device.
