Kaspersky Lab Releases Kaspersky Free Antivirus
Kaspersky Antivirus and Kaspersky Internet Security are one of the most popular security suite used by Windows users. Kaspersky Lab has added another member to its line of products available for its users. The new product is a free version of Kaspersky Antivirus aptly called Kaspersky Free. Yes, you read it correct, a free antivirus software from Kaspersky. So what features are available in the free edition of the security suite by Kaspersky? Let’s find out.
Kaspersky Free Antivirus provides only basic protection and is compatibility with other security products. This is a plus point as you can install another free security product to further strengthen the security of your PC. The basic protection includes real-time file system antivirus, web filter to protect users from malicious websites, automatic updates, self-defense and the same user interface as its other products.
According to Kaspersky Lab, Kaspersky Free is completely free with no bundled adware, spying or user tracking. It uses the same antivirus engine as used by its premium products.
As expected, premium features like Parental Controls, Protected Payments, Mobile Device Protection and Tech support are not available in the free edition. The free antivirus software is claimed to be light on system resources. If you are looking for an alternative to Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast! Free Antivirus or AVG Antivirus Free, or want something better than Windows Defender, Kaspersky Free can become a great choice. If Kaspersky Free is as light on resources as claimed and if it is void of any type of adware, user tracking or spying and respects the user’s privacy, it can become a major competitor in the market of free antivirus.
Initially, Kaspersky Free is available for download only in Russian language, and for users from Russia and Ukraine. Kaspersky Lab promises to gradually release Kaspersky Free in other languages, countries and regions, in the future. There is no exact date available yet for that.
