How To Disable Windows Live Messenger (MSN Messenger) from Loading at Windows Startup

If you have installed Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger), it sets itself to automatically start and load itself on Windows startup. If you want to automatically login to Windows Live Messenger after starting Windows then the autorun feature is very useful. It helps by allowing frequent users or Internet Messenger addicts to quickly sign in to the Windows Live Messenger service to chat with friends and contacts.
For people who rarely uses Windows Live Messenger, setting it to start automatically with Windows slows down the startup process and is a waste of valuable system resources. Here is a simple tip on how to turn off and remove Windows Live Messenger from Windows startup, just follow the steps below.
- Start Windows Live Messenger and sign in to your MSN/Hotmail account, if you haven’t done it yet.
- Now, press the [ Alt ] key to show menu bar. (You can also click on the Show menu icon present after the “Search contacts or the web” box.)
- Click on Tools and select Options.
- If you are using the old MSN Messenger then select General settings from the Options dialog box that opens up. Windows Live Messenger users should select the Sign In settings from the left pane in the Options dialog box.
- Remove the check mark from the check-box that says “Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows“.
- Click on OK or Press [ Enter ] to confirm.
- Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger will now be removed from the autorun entry.
- From now on to use Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger start it manually from the Start Menu shortcut.
