Download Nokia HERE Maps App For iOS and Android
Nokia has rebranded its existing mapping service as the new HERE Maps. Nokia HERE Maps, an alternative to Apple Maps, is now available as free download from the iOS App Store for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new iOS app uses mapping data from Nokia-owned NAVTEQ, and supports Here.net personalized POI (points-of-interest) Collections. Nokia HERE Maps covers over 200 countries and is an HTML5 app and not a native iOS software.
The new Nokia HERE Maps app includes turn-by-turn walking directions, which is still not offered by Apple Maps. Additionally, the iOS app also features live traffic, community maps (for selected areas), social sharing, public transportation and offline support. It allows users to select a local region and download the maps for that region in advance as a cache for offline viewing.
The iTunes description for the app reads “HERE Maps helps you feel like a local anywhere you go. See where you are, search and discover nearby places, and get a feel for the place. Collect places to remember or for later discovery. Explore new destinations and know instantly how to get there on foot, by car or on public transport.”
In select countries, HERE Maps users can get access to community maps created and updated by others. Users can share a location via SMS, email, and social networks. Users can also sign in with their Nokia Account or Facebook login, and sync with Here.net to access their Collections on the go.
While Google Maps (the web app version) is still very much popular among iOS 6 users even after Apple decided to remove Google Maps and instead use its own Map app, its good to see more alternative maps are available for the end users. Apple CEO, Tim Cook, also issued an apology after the lackluster and sometimes inaccurate results of its Map app. Although, we do hearing rumors about Google working on its own iOS mapping app, but nothing has been announced officially by Google.

You can download Nokia HERE Maps from here for devices running iOS 4.3 and higher. Nokia HERE Maps for Android is now only via Amazon Appstore. Google Play Store is offering an unofficial Nokia HERE app, so it’s best to wait for the official release, if Amazon Appstore is not available for your country.
