TuneUp Utilities 2012 Review

TuneUp Utilities 2012 is the latest version of one of the most popular Windows system optimization and tweaking program. Every year it is getting perfected with new unique features added to the program. TuneUp Utilities 2012 features all the functions that were present in the earlier version, viz, TuneUp Utilities 2011 (which we have reviewed earlier). Along with all those features, two notable features added to the latest version are TuneUp Economy Mode and TuneUp Program Deactivator.

TuneUp Economy Mode will extend the battery life of notebook, netbook and tablet computers by shutting off processes and hardware components that aren’t required or in use. TuneUp Economy Mode is the new introduced feature of 2012 while TuneUp Program Deactivator, introduced in 2011 version, has gone through major overhauling in 2012 edition. Both TuneUp Economy Mode and TuneUp Program Deactivator, when used in combination can boost the energy efficiency of Windows 7 systems by up to 30 percent, when compared with the Windows 7 built-in energy savings mode.

With today’s increasing computing power, multi-core processors and gigabytes of RAM, many users will argue if they need a system optimization program? But, many users will agree with us that even with so much of computation power in hand, Windows tends to become sluggish after usage. Microsoft promises to change this scenario with its upcoming Windows 8 operating system but until than we are left with trusted system optimization utilities like TuneUp Utilities.

Since we have already reviewed TuneUp Utilities 2011 and most of the tools, although improved, have remained same in TuneUp Utilities 2012, in this review we will concentrate only on the most notable two features (discussed above). You can go through the thorough review of TuneUp Utilities 2011 here to know in-depth about what it offers.

At the end of this review (after break), you will find a giveaway contest, through which you can win a free license of TuneUp Utilities 2012 worth $49.95. 5 licenses are up for the giveaway, so the total licenses worth approx $250 (exactly $249.75). More on that later. :)

A quick walk-through…

TuneUp Utilities 2012 User Interface

The installation was very straight forward, after which, TuneUp Utilities immediately launched its 1-Click Maintenance tool. The tool quickly checks for Windows Registry errors, broken shortcuts, temporary files (but Recycle Bin), Windows startup and shutdown problems, disk fragmentation and so on. A report of everything found, is provided after the analysis and you can then fix the issues with a single click.

TuneUp Utilities 2012

As we have seen earlier with 2011, the tools are divided into five tabs:

  • Status & recommendations: shows you an overview of the current condition of your system and gives you recommendations on how you can improve the system’s health.
  • Optimize system: disable or uninstall unwanted programs and clean up your system and your data.
  • Gain disk space: you can delete unnecessary data systematically from your system.
  • Fix problems: you will find simple solutions for any problems that might occur.
  • Customize Windows: you can configure how your Windows should look and function, thereby personalizing your computer.

For advance users or for quickly finding a tool, you can click on “Overview of all functions” option. This option gives you a list of all functions that TuneUp Utilities offers. If you click on the wrench icon next to a tool, it opens the settings for that tool.

TuneUp Program Deactivator

Many Windows programs like Microsoft Office adds services, startup programs and other tasks which slows down the system and hampers performance, even though we don’t need those services or programs to start with Windows. If uninstalling the program is not an option than the revamped version of Program Deactivator might be able to help you.

Simply launch Program Deactivator and a list of installed programs is displayed along with its performance impact on your PC. We have already seen earlier in TuneUp Utilities 2011, that it really works and improves performance of the system.

TuneUp Utilities 2012

What’s new in TuneUp Utilities 2012 edition of Program Deactivator is the TuneUp Programs-on-Demand Technology, in layman terms the “Automatic” function. Simply keep the function on, and if you launch a “deactivated” program then TuneUp Utilities 2012 will automatically disable this again once you’ve closed it down. Thus it keeps your system in top performance always.

TuneUp Utilities 2012

Even though your mileage may vary when using this tool. But if your system is packed up with programs (like ours), TuneUp Program Deactivator will surely help you gain performance.

TuneUp Economy Mode

Windows 7 is optimized to conserve power but it is still not fully optimized. As the number of background process, service or scheduled task increases, the impact on the power can also be felt. This prevents devices from entering low-power (or idle) modes. TuneUp Economy Mode prevents PC hardware components from delivering too much power when it’s not really needed. Once TuneUp Economy Mode is active, all non-essential background processes and services are disabled to reduce power usage. The settings are very easy to configure. In our tests, we have seen an increase in battery life.

TuneUp Utilities 2012

Conclusion

In our tests on a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) on Core i5, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD, boot time fell by around 10 percent, RAM usage fell from 40 percent to 35 percent. Overall, system performance was improved and we actually found our applications launching faster.

You can test TuneUp Utilities 2012 for yourself and see the system performance improvements yourself. The software is available for Windows XP, Vista and 7 (32-bit and 64-bit editions) and can be downloaded from TuneUp Utilities official website for free.

I already use TU2011 and have wanted a license of TU2012 ever since I heard about it.I use TU2011 on my work PC and home PC and won’t go without it.

I really want “TU2012″ to experience the beefed up program de-activator which I already use. The automatic capability of this is a fantastic idea. I already have programs on my work computer my employers want run every couple of days which are on “permanently”. They are very resource intensive. I have had to use the TU2011 program de-activator to turn them off and on manually every couple of days. If these “mostly unneeded” programs turned on and off automatically that would be brilliant!

I also have to cart my work laptop to many meetings and I would love the battery to last longer – as such I would really get great use out of the TuneUp Economy Mode.

I also have TU2011 regularly maintain my machine and would love to have TU2012 do the automatic maintenance from now on.

Please count me in the draw!

First of all I would like to thank Mezanul and My Technology Guide for giving us the only chance to use this awesome system utilities for free. I am one of the previous giveaway winners for Auslogics Boostpeed. Unfortunately I had to uninstall it after crashing my computer just over a month ago. I ran the registry defrag after completed the registry cleaner and a window popped out telling me to restart my computer, next thing I know my windows 7 was unable to boot at all. A black screen with movable cursor will appear just after the splash screen of my BIOS. I contacted their technical support and tell me to restore all the changes made by their product, and I replied that my computer can’t boot at all, and they didn’t respond to my last email. I had to reinstall windows 7 and luckily my documents weren’t harmed in another partition. I would never use any product from Auslogics again. Sorry for telling you this but I need someone to share it with. Before using any registry cleaner, I would strongly advise you to make backup and create system restore in case something goes wrong.

After removing Auslogics Boostspeed I looked for several system utilities including Advanced SystemCare, Glary Utilities and WinUtilities. And now I cannot afford to lose this fantastic giveaway so I’m going to be honest as much as possible. I have TuneUp Utilities 2011 installed on my computer, I got it free after purchasing an antivirus software, and I’d say that TuneUp Utilities is the best system utilities I’ve ever used even though I rarely use it. In fact TuneUp utilities is by far the only program that successfully and effectively accelerate my system performance (including Auslogics Boostpeed but without having to crash my computer). Why do I need TuneUp Utilities 2012? Simply because it is the best system utility ever existed on earth. I’m not a tech expert, but but I can follow directions and get most things done. TuneUp Utilities do all the works for me, it is very easy to use and doesn’t require any real expertise so it’s great for beginners as well as for hardcore users.

I’ve used TuneUp Utilities 2012 for two days after they sent me a newsletter containing the announcement of the release of newer version. The most significant improvement is probably the new economy mode, which allow me to get the best battery life possible by decreasing PC’s processor performance thus reducing energy consumption. Besides, program deactivator now works automatically in the background, which means one doesn’t have to manually deactivate any particular programs anymore. The rest are quite the same with the 2011 version, although the new interface did confuse me at first (TuneUp Utilities interface looks so much better than Auslogics Boostspeed though). I’m pretty sure they have fixed some minor problems as well as improved overview of all available functions.

I would strongly recommend TuneUp Utilities 2012 for those who are looking for a simple software solution to optimize system performance. I’m not going to upgrade my TuneUp Utilities to the 2012 version so I would be very happy to win a free license. I have already subscribed to your feedburner, followed, liked and tweeted this giveaway on both twitter and facebook. For your information, I have entered several similar giveaways on different websites but I have already missed two.. May luck be with me this time. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Don’t know why that happened.

I will always recommend everyone to take precautions when using system utilities like Registry cleaners. They are like axes which are used to cut trees but if you don’t take precaution you may harm yourself with it.

Best of luck for this giveaway. :-)

Thanks Mezanul. It’s not the bad results caused by registry cleaning that bother me. I was hugely disappointed in Auslogics technical support. They could have helped me sort out the problem but instead they send me unrelated junk emails. =(

Very good giveaway. TuneUp Utilities 2012 is the best program to optimize the system. There’s a whole bunch of need and irreplaceable functions. Such as remove invalid registry entries, clean disk, manage startup programs, defragment, optimize memory, permanently delete files from the drive using TuneUp Shredder, recover accidentally deleted files, change the look of the system, the configuration of Windows, etc..
I also zaciekawiły new features in the program: TuneUp Turbo Mode, which gives an immediate performance boost when you need it, by turning off running in the background, not at the moment potzebnych function. Next to display the current states of the computer, new optimization feature, which shows the real benefits of use. Besides providing new methods of optimizing the performance increase … :).

TuneUp Utilities 2012 is the unsurpassed leader in its field and is only the latest package is confirmed. It should be the most important program on your computer. It is super, and I want it to be, so please count me.

Yesterday I downloaded and ran the free version of the Tune-up utilities.
It performed some checks and I clicked for resolving them.
Then, it prompted me to restart my laptop for disk checkup.

But windows is not starting. A black screen is coming with a mouse click symbol.
It starts coming just before user accounts login screen comes for start up.
Tried to resolve on this but nothing working fine.

I think I will have to format and reinstall Windows 7.
I had very bad experience with tune up 12 version……. :(:(:(

Will anybody help me on this ….??
